Each week I like to feature a neighborhood in the Boston suburbs that I love. This week I chose Dana Hall, my favorite neighborhood just off Wellesley Center.
Neighborhood characteristics
Named for the nearby Dana Hall School, which was founded in the late 1800s as a preparatory school for girls, the Dana Hall neighborhood is distinguished by century-old trees and handsome homes in a range of styles, including arts & crafts, Cape, Dutch revival, and colonial-style homes. It’s easy to get to know neighbors in this area with close home lots that encourage children to run and play.
Many homes in this historic neighborhood are a century old. Any new construction is kept in keeping with the neighborhood’s distinctive character.
Nearby amenities
The neighborhood is a short walk to a wide array of shops, restaurants (including Blue Ginger – yum!), Hunnewell Park, the wonderful Wellesley Library, and more. it’s just 1.5 miles from Elm Bank Reservation, which includes beautifully manicured grounds, walking trails along the Charles River, and a whimsical children’s garden.
The Dana Hall neighborhood is is about one mile from Whole Foods Market, 3.5 from Roche Bros Grocery Store, 4 miles from Trader Joes, and nearby to many other shops, including Wellesley Booksmith, Eileen Fisher, Lyn Evans Boutique, Talbots, as well as many independent shops.
The Dana Hall neighborhood is a short walk away from the Wellesley Square Commuter Rail station, which can take you to Boston’s Back Bay & South Stations in about 30 minutes.
Public schools
Youngsters in the Dana Hall neighborhood attend Hunewell School, Wellesley Middle School, or Wellesley High School, which is ranked as one of Boston’s Best Public Schools by Boston Magazine.
