One third of consumers earning $250,000 or more say they are actively looking to buy a residential home within the next 12 months. According to the Institute for Luxury Home Marketing’s most recent Market Action Index. So what are they luxury home buyers looking for? RISMedia shares some interesting insights:

* Luxury amenities trump space. More than 90 percent of luxury home buyers said they would give up 1,000 square feet of living space if it meant getting into a better neighborhood, having more land, easier access to shopping and entertainment, and a shorter commute.

* Smart homes are on the rise. Luxury home buyers expect to have a home with high tech features.

* Outdoor spaces are essential. Luxury home buyers want homes that offer calming outdoor spaces such as a garden or outdoor fireplace. Separate guest homes are also highly desired.
