As you’ve probably seen if you’ve read earlier posts in our blog, I like to profile desirable neighborhoods in the Boston suburbs. Today I saw a home for sale on my favorite street in Concord and it spurred me to let you know about this lovely historic neighborhood in Concord, which is located about 20 miles northwest of Boston.

Neighborhood characteristics

No matter how many times I ride through Concord Center, it always makes me happy to see these majestic historic homes so lovingly cared for.

Concord Center includes many village colonial and cape-style homes that retain the wonderful charm and character of when they were originally built in the late 1800s to just after the turn of the century. The porticos and farmer’s porches look so inviting. Although it is a historic district, there are some new homes and fabulous home renovations in a few areas of Concord Center. Overall, the yards sizes tend to be around 1/4 to 1/2 acres in size.

Nearby amenities

Residents of Concord Center can easily stroll downtown to find:
•    Cafes (my favorite is Main Street Market)
•    Restaurants
•    Art galleries
•    Many shops & boutiques, including the wonderful Concord Bookshop
•    The main branch of the Concord Library
•    Emerson Umbrella Center for the Arts
•    Minuteman National Historic Park

Concord Center is a short drive way from Walden Pond, Great Meadows National Wildlife Refuge, and Great Brook Ski Center, not to mention the homesteads of some of America’s most notable authors, including Thoreau, Emerson, and Hawthorne. The area offers easy access to Routes 2 and 128/95 as well as the Concord train, which will take you to Boston’s North Station in about 40 minutes.

Public schools
Many areas of Concord Center fall into the Alcott Elementary School district (grades pre-K-5). Older children in the neighborhood can attend Concord Middle School (grades 6-8) and Concord-Carlisle High School (grades 9-12), which is ranked as one of the top ten public high schools in the state by Boston Magazine.
