Town of Southborough

Southborough is a lovely community located 25 miles west of Boston and 15 miles east of Worcester. The town has retained a low density rural/suburban character with a bucolic town center. Located in the heart of New England and crossed by Route 9, the Massachusetts Turnpike, and Route 495, Southborough is a very convenient location. Two prestigious private boarding schools are part of the village center, which has seen minimal change during the past century.

Adding to the quiet rural charm of Southborough are numerous winding scenic roads, often shared with bikers, hikers and horses. An operating budget of $11 million (55 schools) provide residents with a wide range of services that are aided by considerable community involvement in church, school, and government activity, all creating a small town quality of life within the Boston metropolitan area.

Southborough participates in the Community Preservation Act, legislation that allows the town to adopt a property tax surcharge with revenues from this surcharge (plus state matching funds) to be used for open space preservation, creation of community housing, preservation of historic buildings and landscapes, and creation of recreation opportunities.

Southborough has kept out “big box” stores yet has convenient access to shopping in surrounding communities Westborough and Framingham. The town’s commuter rail station provides easy access to Boston and Worcester. The train to/from Boston takes approximately 50 minutes on the “express” train.
