Even after nearly a decade in the Boston real estate market, I never tire of browsing online listings. If shows like Selling New York and Million Dollar Listings have shown us anything it’s that I’m not alone in this hobby.
So why do people love to peruse luxury home listings?
It’s a fun escape. Seeing the inside of other people’s homes is appealing and for many people. Looking at exquisite homes is a nice way to unwind.
It provides inspiration. For those of us who are decor-challenged, it’s nice to get ideas about how others decorate their homes. I have a Pinterest board of all sorts of ideas, from color palettes to furniture that I love.
It’s a comparison tool. If you’re considering putting your home on the market, you can check out the competition by seeing what other homes are for sale in your neighborhood.

Go mobile. When you drive or stroll by a home for sale, just check out the Boston MLS from your smart phone or iPad and instantly get a glimpse inside.
Search by lifestyle. Instead of doing the same-old search for the number of bedrooms/baths a home has, why not look for the lifestyle you crave, whether it’s a waterfront property or a historic New England estate home.
Attend a special event. Realtors may host a gala, art exhibit, or other soiree to show off a home’s entertaining space. These are an exciting way to really get to see the wow factors of a home.
